Listen and be enchanted by the era's music.

Scott McKenzie's original
Lyrics
If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

Bobby Darin

Bobby Darin : Dream Lover

Lyrics
Ev'ry night, I hope and pray
A dream lover will come my way
A girl to hold in my arms
And know the magic of her charms

(Chorus:)
Because I want a girl
To call my own
I want a dream lover
So I don't have to dream alone

Dream lover, where are you
With a love oh so true
And a hand that I can hold
To feel you near when I grow old?

(Repeat chorus)

(Bridge:)
Someday--I don't know how
I hope you'll hear my please
Some way--I don't know how
She'll bring her love to me

Dream lover, until then
I'll go to sleep and dream again
That's the only thing to do
Until my lover's dreams come true

(Repeat chorus)
Bobby with Sandra Dee
Bobby Darin : Sea of Love
LyricsCome with me, my love
To the sea, the sea of love
I want to tell you how much I love you

Do you remember when we met
That's the day I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you how much I love you

Come with me, my love
To the sea, the sea of love
I want to tell you how much I love you

Come with me, to the sea

Do you remember when we met
That's the day I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you how much I love you

Girl

"Girl" is a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney based on an original idea by Lennon and performed by The Beatles on their 1965 album Rubber Soul. "Girl" was the last complete song recorded for that album

Lyrics of GirlIs there anybody going to listen to my story
All about the girl who came to stay?
She's the kind of girl you want so much
It makes you sorry
Still you don't regret a single day.
Ah girl
Girl

When I think of all the times I've tried so hard to leave her
She will turn to me and start to cry;
And she promises the earth to me
And I believe her
After all this time I don't know why
Ah girl
Girl

She's the kind of girl who puts you down
When friends are there, you feel a fool.
When you say she's looking good
She acts as if it's understood.
She's cool, ooh, ooh, ooh,
Girl
Girl

Was she told when she was young that pain
Would lead to pleasure?
Did she understand it when they said
That a man must break his back to earn
His day of leisure?
Will she still believe it when he's dead?
Ah girl
Girl

House of The Rising Sun

"The House of the Rising Sun" is a folk song from the United States. Also called "House of the Rising Sun" or occasionally "Rising Sun Blues", it tells of a life gone wrong in New Orleans. The most successful commercial version was recorded by the English rock group The Animals in 1964, which was a number one hit in the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and Canada.

Lyrics
There is a house in New Orleans,
They call the Rising Sun,
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy,
And God I know I'm one.

My mother was a tailor,
She sewed my new bluejeans,
My father was a gamblin man,
Down in New Orleans.

Now the only thing a gambler needs,
Is a suitcase and trunk,
And the only time he's satisfied,
Is when he's on a drunk.

Oh mother tell your children,
Not to do what I have done:
To spend your lifes in sin and misery,
In the house of the Rising Sun.

Well i got one foot on the platform,
The other foot on the train,
I'm going back to New Orleans,
To wear that ball and chain.

Well, there is a house in New Orleans,
They call the Rising Sun,
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy,
And god I know I'm one.

Green Sleeves

Lyrics of Green Sleeves by Marianne FaithfullAlas, my love, you did me wrong,
to cast me out discourteously,
for I have loved you so long,
delighting in your very company.
Now if you intend to show me disdain,
don't you know it all the more enraptures me,
for even so I still remain your lover in captivity.

Green sleeves, you're all alone,
the leaves have fallen, the men have gone.
Green sleeves, there's no one home,
not even the Lady Green Sleeves

I sang my songs, I told my lies,
to lie between your matchless thighs.
And ain't it fine, ain't it wild
to finally end our exercise
Then I saw you naked in the early dawn,
oh, I hoped you would be someone new.
I reached for you but you were gone,
so lady I'm going too.

Green sleeves, you're all alone ...

Green sleeves, you're all alone,
the leaves have fallen, the men have all gone home.
Green sleeves, it's so easily done,
leaving the Lady Green Sleeves.

As Tears Go By

"As Tears Go By" is a song written by The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, and their manager Andrew Loog Oldham, and was a popular hit for both British singer Marianne Faithfull in 1964 and The Rolling Stones in 1965. The song is one of the first original compositions by Jagger and Richards, as until that point The Rolling Stones had chiefly been performing covers of blues standards.

Marianne Faithfull 1964

Lyrics
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by

My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doin' things I used to do
They think are new
I sit and watch
As tears go by

Marianne Faithfull began her singing career in 1964. Her first major release, "As Tears Go By", was penned by Jagger/Richards, and became a chart success. She then "left her husband John Dunbar to live with Mick Jagger" and told the "New Musical Express": "My first move was to get a Rolling Stone as a boyfriend. I slept with three and decided the lead singer was the best bet." Jagger finished the relationship with Faithfull in May 1970.

Love Potion No 9

"Love Potion No. 9" is a song written in 1959 by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It was originally performed by the Clovers. The Searchers made a big hit out of it. A classic 60's hit.

Needles and Pins

The Searchers heard British performer Cliff Bennett perform "Needles and Pins" at a club in Hamburg, Germany, and instantly wanted it to be their next single. Soon after, in 1964, "Needles and Pins" appeared on the Searchers' next album, It's Fab! It's Gear! It's The Searchers. It peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in America and was number one in the United Kingdom.

Lyrics
I saw her today, I saw her face
It was a face I loved and I knew
I had to run away
And get down on my knees and pray
That there'd come a day
And still it begins, needles and pins
Because of all my pride
The tears I've got to hide

Oh, I thought I was smart
I'll hold her heart
Didn't think I'd do
But know I see
She's worse to him than me
Let her go ahead, and take his love instead
And one day she will see

Just how to say please
And get down on her knees
Yeah that's how it begins
Needles and pins
I know, I know

Why can't I stop and tell myself I'm wrong,
I'm wrong, so wrong
Why can't I stand up
And tell myself I'm strong?

Because I saw her today, I saw her face
It was a face I loved and I knew
I had to run away
And get down on my knees and pray
Let there come a day
And still it begins, needles and pins
Because of all my pride
The tears I've got to hide
Oh, like needles and pins
Needles and pins

Runaway

A 60's classic
January 21, 1961, Del Shannon recorded "Runaway", released as a single in February 1961. It reached #1 in the Billboard chart in April.

Lyrics(Del Shannon/Max Crook)
As I walk along I wonder
What went wrong with our love
A love so rare and strong

And as I walk along I think of
The times we had together
While our hearts were young

I'm a walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin'and feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery and I wonder
I wa wa wa wonder
Why, why why why why why she ran away
And I wonder where she will stay
My little runaway, a run run run run runaway

I'm walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery and I wonder
I wa wa wa wonder
Why, why why why why why she ran away
And I wonder where she will stay
My little runaway, a run run run run runaway

Tales of Brave Ulysses

"Tales of Brave Ulysses" is a song performed by Cream. The music was written by Eric Clapton and the lyrics by artist Martin Sharp. The song is featured on Cream's album Disraeli Gears. This is one of the first recorded uses of the wah-wah pedal in rock music.

LyricsYou thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids,
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses:
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,
For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips.

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell,
And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave Ulysses; how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing.

The tiny purple fishes run lauging through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Badge

Cream were eventually persuaded to do one final album. That album, the appropriately titled Goodbye, was recorded in late 1968 and released in early 1969, after the band had broken up. It featured six songs: three live recordings dating from a concert at The Forum in Los Angeles, California, on 19 October, and three new studio recordings, the most notable, "Badge", was written by Clapton and George Harrison.

Lyricsby Eric Clapton and George Harrison

Thinkin' 'bout the times you drove in my car.
Thinkin' that I might have drove you too far.
And I'm thinkin' 'bout the love that you laid on my table.

I told you not to wander 'round in the dark.
I told you 'bout the swans, that they live in the park.
Then I told you 'bout our kid, now he's married to Mabel.

Yes, I told you that the light goes up and down.
Don't you notice how the wheel goes 'round?
And you better pick yourself up from the ground
Before they bring the curtain down,
Yes, before they bring the curtain down.

Talkin' 'bout a girl that looks quite like you.
She didn't have the time to wait in the queue.
She cried away her life since she fell off the cradle.

White Room

In 1968 came Cream's third release, Wheels of Fire, which topped the American charts. The opening song, "White Room", became a radio staple.

Lyrics
by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown

In the white room with black curtains near the station.
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings.
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment.

I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines;
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.

You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows.
I walked into such a sad time at the station.
As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning.

I'll wait in the queue when the trains come by;
Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves.

At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd.
Consolation for the old wound now forgotten.
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes.
Now she's dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings.

I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd;
Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.

Sunshine of Your Love

Cream's second album Disraeli Gears was released in November 1967. In it, 'Sunshine of Your Love' was Cream's only gold-selling single in the United States. It featured a distinctive guitar/bass guitar riff and an acclaimed guitar solo from Eric Clapton. It was written by bassist Jack Bruce, lyricist Pete Brown, and Clapton.

Lyrics
by Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Pete Brown

It's getting near dawn,
When lights close their tired eyes.
I'll soon be with you my love,
To give you my dawn surprise.
I'll be with you darling soon,
I'll be with you when the stars start falling.

I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love.

I'm with you my love,
The light's shining through on you.
Yes, I'm with you my love,
It's the morning and just we two.
I'll stay with you darling now,
I'll stay with you till my seas are dried up.

Chorus

Repeat Second Verse

I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love.

Lyricsby Jack Bruce and Pete Brown

Feel when I dance with you,
We move like the sea.
You, you're all I want to know.
I feel free, I feel free, I feel free.

I can walk down the street, there's no one there
Though the pavements are one huge crowd.
I can drive down the road; my eyes don't see,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud.

I feel free, I feel free, I feel free.

I can walk down the street, there's no one there
Though the pavements are one huge crowd.
I can drive down the road; my eyes don't see,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud.

Dance floor is like the sea,
Ceiling is the sky.
You're the sun and as you shine on me,
I feel free, I feel free, I feel free.

I Got a Feeling

'I Got a Feeling' (Let It Be 1970) was another collaboration between Lennon and McCartney except that the first part was written by Paul while the rest from 'Everybody had a hard year' section by John. By now the Beatles 'divorce' was very clear especially bitter between Paul and John.
This video captured the last public performance by the fab 4 at the roof of the Apple Building on 30 Jan 1969. Breaking up was eminent.

LyricsI've got a feeling, a feeling deep inside
Oh yeah, Oh yeah. (that's right.)
I've got a feeling, a feeling I can't hide
Oh no. no. Oh no! Oh no.
Yeah! Yeah! I've got a feeling. Yeah!

Oh please believe me, I'd hate to miss the train
Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
And if you leave me I won't be late again
Oh no, oh no, oh no.
Yeah Yeah I've got a feeling, yeah.
I got a feeling.

All these years I've been wandering around,
Wondering how come nobody told me
All that I was looking for was somebody
Who looked like you.

I've got a feeling that keeps me on my toes
Oh yeah, Oh yeah.
I've got a feeling, I think that everybody knows.
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Oh yeah.
Yeah! Yeah! I've got a feeling. Yeah!

Ev'rybody had a hard year.
Ev'rybody had a good time.
Ev'rybody had a wet dream.
Ev'rybody saw the sunshine.
Oh yeah, Oh yeah. Oh Yeah.
Ev'rybody had a good year.
Ev'rybody let their hair down.
Ev'rybody pulled their socks up. (yeah.)
Ev'rybody put their foot down.
Oh yeah. Yeah! WOOOOHOO!

repeat with both parts.

[Oh my soul...it's so hard.]

One After 909

'One after 909' was written collaboratively by Lennon and McCartney in 1959 during those grim Liverpool days. It was first recorded in March 1963 during the same session when 'From Me To You' was produced. It was only included in their last album "Let It Be"(1970)

LyricsMy baby says she's trav'ling on the one after 909
I said move over honey I'm travelling on that line
I said move over once, move over twice
Come on baby don't be cold as ice.

I said I'm trav'ling on the one after 909 I begged her not to go and I begged her on my bended knees,
You're only fooling around, you're fooling around with me.
I said move over once, move over twice
Come on baby don't be cold as ice.

I said I'm trav'ling on the one after 909
Pick up my bag, run to the station
Railman says you've got the the wrong location
Pick up my bag, run right home
Then I find I've got the number wrong

Well I said I'm trav'ling on the one after 909
I said move over honey I'm travelling on that line
I said move over once, move over twice
Come on baby don't be cold as ice.

I said we're trav'ling on the one after 9 0,
I said we're trav'ling on the one after 9 0,
I said we're trav'ling on the one after 909.

Oh Danny Boy, The Pipes, The Pipes Are Calling...

Let It Be

In March 1970, the single 'Let It Be' a Paul McCartney's epic was released before the album (May 1970). It was deliberately recorded as the Beatles' swansong. However it was recorded in Jan 1969 and no one had any idea that it was going to be the last single. Paul wrote it out of the general feeling of despair as the Beatles began to fall apart. John preferred to spend more time with Yoko Ono, George was discouraged that his songs were rejected and Ringo even took off for a holiday during the recording of the White Album. John Lennon described it as 'hell to go through the six weeks of misery' in completing the album. In the 'Let It be' film, the last performance of the Beatles on the roof of Apple's office was recorded. As usual John in his pointed sense said " I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and i hope we pass the audition."

LyricsWhen I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Yeah, There will be an answer, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
(instrumental break)

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me.
Shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be no sorrow, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. hoooo' hoooo'

Come Together

Another George Harrison song in Abbey road album was Come Together
LyricsShoot me! Shoot me! Shoot me!

Here come old flattop. He come grooving up slowly
He got ju-ju eyeballs. He's one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please

Shoot me! Shoot me! Shoot me!

He wear no shoeshine he's got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot Coca-Cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me.

Shoot me! Shoot me! Shoot me!

He buy production he got walrus scumble
He's got Ono sideboard he's got spinal cracker
He's got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his arms till you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me.

He's roller-coaster he's got early warning
He's got muddy water he's got mojo filter
He say "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me.

Shoot me! Shoot me! Shoot me!

Ow!

[solo]

Come together! Come together! Come together!
[repeat over solo until end]

Something

'Something' was composed by George Harrison for the Abbey Road album 1969. It was one of the most covered song after 'Yesterday' : Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Smokey Robinson. Was it for Patti Boyd, his wife who left for Eric Clapton later?
The first line was from the title of a James Taylor song.
LyricsSomething in the way she moves,
Attracts me like no other lover.
Something in the way she woos me.
I don't want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.

Somewhere in her smile she knows,
That I don't need no other lover.
Something in her style that shows me.
I don't want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.

You're asking me will my love grow,
I don't know, I don't know.
Stick around, and it may show,
But I don't know, I don't know.

Something in the way she knows,
And all I have to do is think of her.
Something in the things she shows me.
I don't want to leave her now.
You know I believe and how.

Do You Want To Know a Secret?

Do You Want to Know a Secret? from album 'Please Please Me' (1964) was written by John shortly after he married Cynthia Powell who was pregnant. the 'secret' was John's realisation that he was really in love. The flushing sound at the end was John's doing as he
making a demo in the toilet. Billy J Kramer made it a hit, the first time another artiste sang a Lennon-McCartney song.
Lyrics
You'll never know how much I really love you.
You'll never know how much I really care.

Listen,
Do you want to know a secret?,
Do you promise not to tell?, whoa oh, oh.

Closer,
Let me whisper in your ear,
Say the words you long to hear,
I'm in love with you.

Listen,
Do you want to know a secret?,
Do you promise not to tell?, whoa oh, oh.

Closer,
Let me whisper in your ear,
Say the words you long to hear,
I'm in love with you.

I've known the secret for a week or two,
Nobody knows, just we two.

Listen,
Do you want to know a secret?,
Do you promise not to tell?, whoa oh, oh.

Closer,
Let me whisper in your ear,
Say the words you long to hear,
I'm in love with you.

Get Back

Paul said that he'd originally wrote it as a political song. He had to explain that the original verses were not racist. Get Back sold over 2 millions and reached no 1 in many countries. It was included in the Let it Be album.
LyricsJojo was a man who thought he was a loner
But he knew it couldn't last
Jojo left his home in Tucson, Arizona
For some California grass

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, Jojo
Go home

Get back, get back
Back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Back to where you once belonged
Get back, Jo

Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman
But she was another man
All the girls around her say she's got it coming
But she gets it while she can

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, Loretta
Go home

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Oooh...

Get back, Loretta
Your mama's waiting for you
Wearing her high-heel shoes
And her low-neck sweater
Get back home, Loretta

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back
Oh, yeah

Revolution 9

John said in a Rolling Stone interview, when asked about the song, "an unconscious picture of what I actually think will happen when it happens; that was just like a drawing of revolution" makes sense to anyone who's ever done any research on Charles Manson, or what he believed. Paul did not like it. It was not a Lennon-McCartney song nor a Beatles' recording but an 8 min plus amalgamation of taped sounds which John and Yoko mixed together. It was included in The Beatles album (or The White Album) in Nov 1968.

Revolution 9
Lyrics

... bottle of claret for you if I'd realised. I'd forgotten all about it, George, I'm sorry.
Well, do next time.
Will you forgive me?
Mmmm...yes...
Cheeky bitch.
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number...
...Then there's this Welsh Rarebit wearing some brown underpants

What Are You Doing

What Are you Doing, one of the less well known songs from Beatles For sale album (1964)

Lyrics
Look what you're doing, I'm feeling blue and lonely,
Would it be too much to ask of you,
What you're doing to me?

You got me running and there's no fun in it,
Why should it be so much to ask of you,
What you're doing to me?

I've been waiting here for you,
Wond'ring what you're gonna do,
Should you need a love that's true,
It's me.

Please stop your lying, you've got me crying, girl,
Why should it be so much to ask of you,
What you're doing to me?

What you're doing to me.

Yellow Submarine

The idea of writing a children's song about different coloured submarines came to Paul's head one night at Jane Asher's home. This was to develop into 'Yellow Submarine' which narrated about a boy listening to tall stories of an old sailor about his exploits and then decides to go sailing and see for himself. Paul used only short word in the lyric because he wanted it to be learnt quickly and sung by children. Yellow Submarine was one of the few which was sang byRingo. It was released as the flip side of 'Eleanor Rigby' in August 1966.

LyricsIn the town where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed to sea,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of submarines,

So we sailed on to the sun,
Till we found the sea green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

And our friends are all aboard,
Many more of them live next door,
And the band begins to play.

(Trumpets play)

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

(Full speed ahead, Mr. Barkley, full speed ahead!
Full speed over here, sir!
All together! All together!
Aye, aye, sir, fire!
Captain! Captain!)

As we live a life of ease(life of ease)
Every one of us(every one of us) has all we need,(has all we need)
Sky of blue,(sky of blue) and sea green,(sea of green)
In our yellow(In our yellow) submarine.(submarine) ( Haha! )

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.
(fading)
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine

Long Tall Sally
Lyrics
I'm gonna tell Aunt Mary 'bout Uncle John

I am The Walrus

After 'All I Need is Love', John released 'I Am the Walrus' in November 1967. It was partly a wind-up on John's part. recording began on Sept 5 1967.
Lyrics of I Am The Walrus
I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Mister City Policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying, I'm crying.
I'm crying, I'm crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.

Expert textpert choking smokers,
Don't you thing the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty,
See how they snied.
I'm crying.

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Elementary penguin singing Hari Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.
Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob g'goo... (etc.)

Lucy In the Skies with Diamonds

"Lucy in the Skies with Diamonds" from Sgt Pepper's was the most controversial pyschedelic song the Beatles had ever recorded. John Lennon would want the world to believe that its title was not drug related (LSD) but from his son. Julian's art work. However, the lyrics, on deeper reflection and reading was a 'bad acid trip'

Lyrics of Lucy In the Skies with Diamonds

{VERSE 1}
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

{CHORUS}
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Ah... Ah...

{VERSE 2}
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain,
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies.
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.

Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.

{CHORUS}

Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties.
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

{CHORUS}

{CHORUS FADEING}

PS I Love You

Written in 1961, it was an early Paul effort, written in Hamburg, which was considered as their first single in Britain. It became the B side of 'Love Me Do'. It was thought that the song was written for his first girlfriend, Dorothy Rhone, a Liverpool girl but Paul later denied it.

Lyrics of PS I Love You

As I write this letter,
Send my love to you,
Remember that I'll always,
Be in love with you.

Treasure these few words 'til we're together,
Keep all my love forever,
P.S., I love you.
You, you, you.

I'll be coming home again to you, love,
And 'til the day I do, love,
P.S., I love you.
You, you, you.

As I write this letter,
Send my love to you,
Remember that I'll always,
Be in love with you.

Treasure these few words 'til we're together,
Keep all my love forever,
P.S., I love you.
You, you, you.

As I write this letter, (Oh oh oh)
Send my love to you, (You know I want you to)
Remember that I'll always, (Yeah)
Be in love with you.

I'll be coming home again to you, love,
And 'til the day I do, love,
P.S., I love you.
You, you, you.
You, you, you.
I love you.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

George with Eric Clapton

While My Guitar Gently Weeps - George Harrison at his top. On the invitation of George, Eric Clapton became the first non-Beatle who featured in a Beatle song. He played lead while George was on rhythm. It was recorded in Sept 1968 though George started it in July as the rest of the Beatles weren't interested in his songs.

Lyrics of My Guitar Gently Weeps

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted
You were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
Look at you all . . .
Still my guitar gently weeps.

I Feel Fine

The Beatles completed the album 'A Hard day's Night' in June 1964 and by mid August were back to start work on 'Beatles For Sale'. The song, written by John, had a guitar riff inspired by Bobby Parker's 'Watch Your Steps'
Lyrics of I Feel Fine

Baby's good to me you know,
She's happy as can be you know,
She said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine
Baby says she's mine you know,
She tells me all the time you know,
She said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine
I'm so glad that she's my little girl
She's so glad, she's telling all the world
That her baby buys her things you know.
He buys her diamond rings you know,
She said so
She's in love with me and I feel fine, MMM
Baby says she's mine you know,
She tells me all the time you know,
She said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine
I'm so glad that she's my little girl
She's so glad, she's telling all the world
That her baby buys her things you know.
He buys her diamond rings you know,
She said so
She's in love with me and I feel fine
She's in love with me and I feel fine, MMM

Eight Days a Week

John claimed that this song was written by Paul as a potential title track for the Beatles followup film to 'A Hard day's Night'. Director Dick Lester pointed out that it wa srecorded in October 1964 where as 'Help' started filming in Feb 1965. Originally they thought of calling it "Eight Arms to Hold". Paul then heard the phrase 'Eight Days a Week' from a chauffer who drove him to John's home in Weybridge one day."Busy? I 've been working eight days a week" said the chauffer to Paul. It is the first song which has a fade-in. It was made the followup single to 'I Feel Fine' and made it to no 1 spot.

Lyrics
Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you,Ooo.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time,ooh

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love girl,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week,
Eight days a week,
Eight days a week.

Octopus's Garden

'Octopus's Garden' was one of the few songs featuring Ringo Starr's vocals
LYRICS

I'd like to be, under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
in his octupus' garden, in the shade.

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm, below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head, on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout(out) and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you
In an octupus' garden with you
In an octupus' garden with you.

Day Tripper

It was written under pressure when The Beatles needed a new single for the Christmas market. John wrote most of the lyric and basic guitar break. coming up with a riff that he derived from 'I Feel Fine'. Paul helped with the verses and his bass riff, something like Roy Orbison's 'Oh Pretty Woman'. This song is typically John's, in the summer of 1965, who wanted to reflect the influence of the growing drug culture. It was written as a double sided single with 'We Can Work It Out'
'Day Tripper' The beautiful guitar twangs of George Harrison made this song special who was also on LSD trips then.

Lyrics of Day Tripper
Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out
Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out, now

She was a day..... tripper, one way ticket, yeah!
It took me so..... long to find out, and I found out

She's a big teaser, she took me half the way there
She's a big teaser, she took me half the way there, now

She was a day.... tripper, one way ticket, yeah!
It took me so.... long to find out, and I found out

Tried to please her, she only played one night stands
Tried to please her, she only played one night stands, now

She was a day.... tripper, Sunday driver, yeah!
It took me so.... long to find out, and I found out

Day tripper
Day tripper, yeah!

Day tripper
Day tripper, yeah!

Norwegian Wood

Although John was famous as the married Beatle, he was not happily married. He was not faithful as he took advantage of the backstage groupies and had confessed to Cynthia that he had been unfaithful. This song was about him boasting about a girl he has 'had'. She took him home and asked him to admire furnishings made from cheap Norwegian pine.
John began the song in Feb 1965. He later asked Paul for help and Paul suggested that he should develop a story about a girl who leads a man on and ends with a man setting the apartment on fire as an act of revenge.
The song stood out in the 'Rubber Soul' album fro its use of the sitar. The Indian influence was beginning to show through George Harrison.

Lyrics of Norwegian Wood

once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me;
She showed me her room, isn't it good, Norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine,
We talked until two and then she said, "It's time for bed"

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke I was alone, this bird had flown
So I lit a fire, isn't it good, Norwegian wood.

Hey Jude

'Hey Jude' was one of the last songs performed by the Beatles as a group. It was also the first song released under the Apple label, beside Mary Hopkins' Those Were the days'. I could not forget the long long ending.
Paul always enjoyed a close relationship with John's song Julian. When John and Yoko started living together, divorce proceedings began between John and Cynthia. Julian was 5 then. Paul wrote the song with Julian's uncertain future in mind. It began with Hey Julian, then Hey Jules, finally Hey Jude. Julian only heard the first hand account from Paul only in 1987. Hey Jude became the most successful Beatles' single ever, topping the charts around the world and before end of 1967, sold 5 million copies.

Lyrics of Hey Jude

Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

Hey Jude don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better

And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Da da da da da
da da da da

Hey Jude don't let me down
You have found her now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

So let it out and let it in
Hey Jude begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you
Hey Jude you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder

Da da da da da
da da da da Yeah

Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it better
Better, better, better, better, better, Yeah,Yeah,Yeah

Till There Was You

'Till There was You' captivates your attention with its holiday sound .

Lyrics of Till There Was YouThere were bells on a hill
But I never heard them ringing
No I never heard them at all
Till there was you

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No I never saw them at all
Till there was you

Then there was music and wonderful roses
They tell me in sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No I never heard it at all
Till there was you

Then there was music and wonderful roses
They tell me in sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No I never heard it at all
Till there was you

I wanna Hold Your Hand

This song was written by John and Paul in the basement of Jane Asher's home in Oct 1963. This was the song that finally break them in America when it reached No 1 in Jan 1964. I wanna Hold your Hannnnnnnnnnd by The Beatles. Those who were young during the 60s would surely be singing along.

Lyrics of I wanna Hold Your Hand

Oh yeah, I´ll tell you something
I think you´ll understand
When I say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand

Oh, please, say to me
You´ll let me be your man
and please, say to me

You´ll let me hold your hand
Now let me hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand

And when I touch you i feel happy, inside
It´s such a feeling
That my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide

Yeah you, got that something
I think you´ll understand
When I say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand

And when I touch you I feel happy, inside
It´s such a feeling
That my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide

Yeah you, got that something
I think you´ll understand
When I feel that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams : Green Day

A favourite song of mine by Green Day
Boulevard of Broken Dreams
(2004)

LyricsI walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But It's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Till then I walk alone

Ah-ah Ah-ah Ah-ah Aaah-ah
Ah-ah Ah-ah Ah-ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line of the edge
And where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's fucked up and everything's all right
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Till then I walk alone

Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Aaah-Ah
Ah-Ah Ah-Ah

I walk alone
I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a...

My shadow's only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Till then I walk alone

From Me To You

'From Me to You' was the third Beatles hit, top selling for 6 weeks in 1963 to become their 2nd no 1 in Britain. It was written in Nov 1963 while travelling by coach from York to Shrewsbury on the Helen Shapiro tour. The title was suggested from the From You to Us column in the weekly New Musical Express.

Lyrics If there's anything that you want,
If there's anything I can do,
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you.

I've got everything that you want,
Like a heart that is oh, so true.
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you.
I got arms that long to hold you
And keep you by my side.
I got lips that long to kiss you
And keep you satisfied, oooh.

If there's anything that you want,
If there's anything I can do,
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you.
From me, to you.

From me. To You.

To you, to you, to you.

Please Please Me

'Please Please me' was the second hit after 'Love Me Do' , released in March 1963. It made it to second in the British top 20. It was the birth of the mersey sounds and the sound of Roy Orbison's voice was the inspiration behind the song.

LyricsLast night I said these words to my girl,
I know you never even try girl,
C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon)
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you

You don't need me to show the way, love
Why do I always have to say "love?"
C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon)
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you

I don't wanna sound complaining,
But you know there's always rain in my heart (in my heart).
I do all the pleasing with you it's so hard to reason
With you, whoa yeah, why do you make me blue?

Last night I said these words to my girl,
I know you never even try girl,
C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon) C'mon (C'mon)
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you

1967 was a year when conflicts were aplenty. The Vietnam War and the anti-war protests, ghetto rebellions, Six-day war in the mid-east. The Beatles were approached by BBC to take part in the first ever global TV link. The Beatles were asked to write a simple song that would be understood by viewers of all nationalities. John's All You Need is Love was chosen. Thus 'All You Need Is Love' was released during this troubled time, viewers saw it on June 25 1967. It was a re-creation of a Beatles recording session. It was released on July 7 and became the anthem of flower power.

Lyrics of All You Need Is Love
Love, Love, Love.
Love, Love, Love.
Love, Love, Love.

There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.
It's easy.

Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.

All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.

All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.

Nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.

All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.

All you need is love (All together, now!)
All you need is love. (Everybody!)
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
(love is all you need) (love is all you need)
(love is all you need) Yesterday (love is all you need)
(love is all you need) (love is all you need)

Yee-hai!
Oh yeah!
love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, oh yeah oh hell yea! love is all you need love is all you need love is all you need.

Imagine

Definitive John Lennon
This is the mother of all songs!!! Beautiful!!!!

LyricsImagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
