These insects reside in tiny holes in wood. They can be easily destroyed if found early. These borers in school pick into the integrity of colleagues out of spite or simply out of mischief when they are idle. They are the rumour mongerers. If they are checked early, the damage will be great and unpleasant. If checked, it will just be another form of mischief, no harm done.
