Thursday 1st Jan is a very cool day, cloudy with light rain early in the morning. The rain held back for the rest of the day making it a very pleasant day.

The first match of the year featured Stoke vs Man Utd. This is the 3rd game in a week for the Premiership before the traditional weekend's FA Cup matches.

Stoke vs Man Utd:  1:1  an early kickoff for the teams and Van Gaal must be kicking himself now that his team could have made grounds on defeated leaders Chelsea. It was again a labored effort by the Red Devils. Stoke matched them in every aspect, Britannia is not an easy ground to play in. It was a really woeful away form that would not see the Red Devils do better than a third! Falcao scored the equalizing goal.

Southampton vs Arsenal: 2-0 The Gunners were washed away by the young Saints

Tottenham vs Chelsea:  5-3  What a shocker, the scoreline, I mean. By the 60th minute, Spurs were leading 4-1!!. Young Harry Kane was the main tormentor, scoring 2 and making an assist. Jose Mourinho cannot moan on anything for this match, he can only turn away in an agony of hurt and fury that his side was truly well-beaten. He must be quite hurt that his team did not garner a wide lead during the first half season's dominance and that City has now closed up ominously.

Liverpool vs Leicester: 2-2 Two Gerrard penalties, leading 2-0 at half time. Yet the Reds allowed bottom feeder Leicester to come away from Anfield with a credible draw. Brenden Roger is back to his shell now.

Man City vs Sunderland : 3-2 Frank Lampard saved City with his goal after the Black Cats came back to draw level 2-2. This win allowed the Citizens to draw level with Chelsea at the top. Momentum is now with them and Chelsea must be very very anxious now, when it deemed to be a one-horse race not so long ago.
