Rooney was rightly sent off for a petulant kick after Stewart Downing went past him. He needs to be put into place as his reckless action placed his team at risk. This is not the way a Man Utd captain should behave. A stronger team than West Ham Utd would make have made him and Utd pay dearly. This time they held on to win with two goals from Rooney and Van Persie. The red mist that descended on Rooney would allow Van Gaal to tweak his team to play without their captain for the next 3 matches and it could be a blessing in disguise as the team played better without him.
